your opinion please

i hope you will listen to the song, but if not here are the lyrics:
Oh, why you look so sad? Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now.
Don't be ashamed to cry, let me see you through
Cause I've seen the dark side too.
When the night falls on you, you don't know what to do,
Nothing you confess could make me love you less
I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
So, if you're mad get mad, don't hold it all inside,
Come on and talk to me now.
And hey, what you got to hide? I get angry too
But I'm alot like you.
When you're standing at the crossroads, don't know which path to choose,
Let me come along, cause even if your wrong
I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
Take me into your darkest hour, and I'll never desert you.
I'll stand by you.
And when, when the night falls on you baby, you're feeling all alone,
You won't be on your own, I'll stand by you. I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you. I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour and I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you.

i am interested in everyones opinion, but particularly the guys. what do you think? do you think the sentiments in this song would make you feel good or emasculated?
from a girls point of view-i love it. its a strong song, saying that life sucks, but i still love you and i am here. please give me your thoughts.

  1. I've always had a theory that break ups are secretly harder on men than women.

We're raised all our lives to keep our emotions hidden, not talk about our feelings, always be tough. There's something about women that makes you feel like you can lower your guard, but I don't think that they always realize how vulnerable that makes us.

I like this song, but, I think thanks to my upbringing, I'm a bit of a chick sometimes.

  2. really? your theory makes sense, but i (of course) always thought the opposite. men can compartmentalize and just shove the emotions and the pain away until it dissolves and they find a new girl.
girls feel the pain and see the big picture. the big picture without you and its devastating. and we cry and eat a lot of ice cream and complain to our friends.
so.....the "chick" comment-you think this song takes away from a mans studliness?

  3. I like this song a lot. I don't find it the least bit emasculating. I don't think the song has anything to do with breakups, so I dont really think it matters to this topic of whether men or women take breakups harder.

The only line in the song that is even potentially emasculating is the line "won't let anybody hurt you." It doesn't mean that the girl is gonna go to bat for you though. It just means she is gonna stick with the guy. To me, that is a lot of what love is about. Just not leaving. Not giving up when it gets hard.

  4. tripp- i agree. i dont think the song has anything to do with breakups. its a different kind of love song. has some rescue to it. i think men need to be rescued just as much as women want to be(if they admit it). i know i want to be "rescued", but i want to rescue right back.

  5. I like the song. Nothing emasculating to it.

Compartmentalizing feelings doesn't make them go away. Being left sucks, and it sucks for a long time. Not being able to talk about it and cry and things doesn't make it easier.

  6. blain-i think you should have seminars on that very subject: COMPARTMENTALIZING FEELINGS DOESNT MAKE THEM GO AWAY. i think things could be so much better in relationships/marriages if men realized that. we can get into what women need to realize at another time. lets focus on what the men need to change. ;-) :-D

  7. Yeah. That's the ticket. Wait till the men are perfect.
