come! we do it again!

my parents were really into the old movies-particularly musicals and they were the only thing we were able to watch on sunday after church. i particularly enjoyed hello dolly and the kind and i. this scene really makes me smile because tgws(who hated musicals, by the way)would go to church(which he hated, he came just to be with me)then would come to my house and suffer through a musical until my parents would kick him out. one night when i walked him out to his souped up 67 camaro, he struck out his hand yule brenner(as the king)style and he said "come! we do it again!" and proceeded to polka with me in the middle of my street. we ended up laughing and out of breath, but it was a good thing. a sweet memory of a sweeter boy who loved me, and for a time, did whatever he could to make me smile.

  1. I haven't seen this in probably 15 years, all I remember is "Etcetera, Etcetera, Etcetera"

Tangent alert: After going to see the Body Worlds exhibit a few times I only really remember Yul Brynner as the guy begging people to stop smoking from his death bed. On that note, everyone know smoking is Trouble, with a capital 'T'!(haha ok it's my favorite musical, I had to fit it in)

How long ago was this? While I was living at home I never did things like that, I'm mostly disappointed with myself for that entire period.

  5. A good polka is a joy to do. I haven't done one in a very long while -- last one I tried, was more like a box-waltz (lame). I'm not in shape to try one now, but would like to be.

One of my last polkas was at a YSA dance being held in a barn (it was Halloween) and we managed to land on a spot where the floor board was missing, and my leg went down that hole. A very abrupt braking procedure.

  6. yikes! i have had no polka related accidents, just the silliness of polka-ing in the middle of the street(probably badly)and loving every second of it.
i am not a good dancer-i remember my dad trying to teach me the box waltz and briefly trying to 2-step. i am a klutz.
